The lifeboat returns from South Shields

The body of a man was recovered from Marsden beach on Sunday morning by volunteers from Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat station.

Humber Coastguard were alerted to reports at 08:00 that a man had fallen from cliffs at Marsden. Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to the scene along with South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade. Paramedics and the North East Air Ambulance also attended.

The casualty was found to be deceased and it was determined that the best way to recover the body was by sea so Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched at 08:40 and proceeded to the scene. Once there the three volunteer crew members placed the casualty in the lifeboat and took it round to South Shields beach where an ambulance was waiting.

Once the task was complete all of the rescue teams were stood down and the lifeboat returned to station.
